The UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) seeks an assistant programme specialist (communications) comfortable working with the web and social media.
The position is based in Montreal, Canada.
"She/he will be responsible for the implementation of the UIS communications strategy and for collaborating on outreach activities and initiatives to develop new UIS products."
Profile:
- Advanced university degree (Master’s level) in the field of Communication or closely related discipline.
- At least two to four years of relevant professional experience of which at least one year at the international level including journalistic experience in reporting on development issues related to UNESCO’s field of competence. Demonstrated experience working within an international context with a variety of stakeholders, such as government officials, UN professionals, journalists, researchers and policymakers.
- Established track record in communications, media outreach and development of website content. The incumbent must demonstrate a sufficient level of understanding regarding emerging communication and information technologies and their potential uses. Experience with SharePoint would be an asset.
- Demonstrated high quality writing, editing and proofreading skills.
- Excellent knowledge of English with strong writing and editing skills and a working knowledge of French. Fully bilingual candidates are preferred. Knowledge of another UN language an asset.
- Self-motivation and ability to take initiative while still working collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to work under deadlines and multitask.
- Knowledge on statistical issues would be a strong asset.
- Knowledge of UNESCO and/or UN communications, outreach, knowledge dissemination and management practices are a plus.
