Let me add one or two other ICT initiatives upon Mikaya that particularly work on agriculture/Livestock.
-LINKS (Livestock Information Network and Knowledge System); is a project of the Global Livestock Research Support Program funded by USAID. It was initiated to fill the gap in livestock marketing information in some eastern African countries including Ethiopia. It has assembled some spacial information an communication toolkits like GPS, WorldSpace radio and also uses mobile technology(SMS) to deliver timely livestock market information and early warning through its Livestock Early Warning System(LEWS). ILRI campus use to host the project for about 7 years before it was taken over by the MoA, I think, in 2011.
-ELMIS (Ethiopian Livestock Marketing Information System) was also a corroborative project of Ethiopian Society of Animal Production (ESAP), MoA and SPS-LMM (also USAID funded) to develop an Internet based database with the aim of developing a system to provide livestock producers, fatteners, abattoirs, traders, exporters, consumers, other relevant stakeholders and concerned policy makers with comprehensive, accurate and timely information on prices and quantity of livestock and livestock products marketed in Ethiopia as well as in regional and international markets. I know the project was active in 2010 though I do not know about its status currently.
