Appel à contributions : Invitation à publier votre article ! Premier numéro francophone du “Knowledge Management for Development Journal”
Le journal anglophone “Knowledge Management for Development” existe depuis 2005.
I wanted to ask a question, and it seems I have to be a member of this group in order to do that. So, is this the place to inquire about/request/apply for such membership?
While I'm at it, my question concerns backissues, prior to Taylor and Francis taking over: At the latter site, it appears that only vol. 5 and later is available. What about vols. 1-4?
PS. This all started because it seems that an article I co-authored for vol. 2 appears to be available with different page numbers.
It might be fun to have a little side group to discuss one or more articles each month. Maybe on our NING site as a way to also see how we can have some side conversations and weave them back into the larger communities. Anyone interested in a journal club? Organizing a first conversation focus?
Gada Kodada and Tariq Zaman already indicated their interest... Anyone up for joining/ leading this?
Can some of you please check http://www.tandfonline.com/loi/rkmd20 to see if you have full access to all volumes of the journal? If that's the case it's great (according to T&F policy, it shouldn't be the case actually)!
A few people have asked how to join this group. You need to join the KM4Deve NING site first, and then this group. Here are three screen shots to walk you through the process. The first is from http://www.km4dev.org -- the home page. The second is from the registration page you go to when you click "join" and the third is this Journal page where, in the upper right hand corner, you can join this group. Holler if you have any questions.
Hi Nancy, I've already posted the article suggested by Melissa under resources. There are also other articles appearing on the wiki (we're still not up to date) but I think there is no problem for individual articles.
Excellent. For those reading and not fully awake (like me) just look above this discussion post to the resources. There are two articles, Sarah, which one is the starterd?
Do we want to set a "please ready by" date?
We might also want to post a reminder on the DGroups list to encourage others over here. It is not always that obvious! Thanks Sarah and Ewen!
The starter article is the resource above ''Making innovation systems work in practice". I think a ''please be ready'' date is a good idea. When would you suggest, Nancy? This article was your suggestion, Melissa, how would you like to go about this?
Ik keep finding the sites (why two different ones?) pretty confusing, never knowing if I see the latest issue or not. Never clear if I should login or not.
Okay, so we start with the starter article (in the resources section | just scroll up here on this page till you see the resources block above) ''Making innovation systems work in practice"
I could have read it say by Saturday evening (CET).
Where will we chat? Here? Or rather following the link of the article above and then in the chat box below the article? Seems to make more sense to me!
I will be traveling, so I can't take a lead on this Sarah. And Peter, I think your suggestion of a date is terrific, but I'm not sure, however, everyone who expressed interest from the DGroups list has 'arrived' yet, so if you all finalize a start date, please post it to that list. This first time it make take a bit of support and encouragement for those not yet on Ning.
For this round, I leave it to y'all! I'll be mostly offline through April 4 (and yes, this is my evil way to encourage other members to take up bits of leadership here and there and move outwards from core group dependence! :-) )
I think a target date is good. It can mark the commencement of conversation regarding the journal article. Discussing the article within the indivdiual article entry would be convenient.
Like Regi, I agree that a date frame for comments is good - beginning and ending. So, if there is a "window" for comments from the date of issue/posting until the next issue (or something like that), there is a sense of urgency for the discussion and keeps it from dragging. Not that someone could not comment or read the posts after the "closing" date; but the discussion could stay time-focused and more likely to elicit participation.
Ok, so 2 weeks from today is Wednesday, April 4. Can we set that as our official conversation start date? I am just throwing this out there, as my initial attempt at volunteering to moderate this conversation. I could post an initial question or starter thought that day to get the conversation rolling.
Logistically, I noticed that when you click on the article title in the resources section (above) you are brought to a different page (where the article is posted) and a different space for a conversation thread. Where should we host this conversation--this page, or the comment wall where the article is posted?
I would suggest the threaded conversation take place as "close" to the virtual document as possible, whether that be through the tool there or a link to the document here.
Does this comment wall allow multiple threads, or will it all get jumbled together? If the latter, then the conversation about the article might be better had on that page.
Great if you can moderate our talk, Melissa, many thanks. I would suggest that we start the discussion in a week (29/03) to give us (me!) a bit of time to read the article and then have a discussion until 12/04. If we start right now, some people might not be able to join. Looking forward to this!
April 4 sounds good. To Lawrence's earlier point a conversation in the location of the posted documented would be great. Perhaps an announcment here alerting members to the ensuing conversation will be good. It will help make people aware and promote the dialogue.
Hi everyone, there is also a discussion on the page under resource itself but it's only 3 entries... 4 March as a start date - if I understand that rightly? - sounds great but I'd suggest that, if we want, we could each prepare feedback on our reaction to the article as a first thing to share, prior to the discussion. It would also be interesting, Melissa, if you'd tell why you chose that particular article.
Just a little technical note. I changed the settings on the NING site today so when people post here, the email alert contains the FULL TEXT of the message. I believe this will help the journal club discussion be easier to participate in. YAY!
Summarizing the threads below, here is how I understand how this first conversation will emerge:
1. As people read the article please feel free to post your initial reactions on the page where the article is posted (under the resources section above click the article title and post comments on that web page's comment wall). For example, I will post why I chose this article, as Sarah suggested.
2. Starting 4 April, I will synthesize people's initial reactions and pose a question that will start off our discussion.
3. How long should our conversation "officially" last? I suggest 2 weeks-1 month, in order to accommodate those who travel frequently who may be interested in participating.
Thanks Melissa for taking the facilitation lead here! I suggest that now it is time to move over to the article page.
We may have to use a calendar (as in event on this Ning?) to clearly indicate what we have decided in terms of:
1. start reading till reading deadline xyz
2. deadline xyz is start of discussion, though I'd say if people with to contribute earlier that is fine too
3. a pre-announced deadline for the end of the "official" conversation, though of course, noone can be stopped to keep contributing
4. if it makes sense: a pre-announced date on which a summary of the conversation will be posted: where? Here seems to make sense, or archived in a KM4Dev journal conversations repository on the KM4Dev wiki?
@Liah - if you still need articles on KM in hospitals, I suggest visiting APQC.org and requesting that info - Ron Webb has a goodly amount of free material in addition to their subscription-based information services.
Hiya -- I just got a request for an article from the Sept 2010 issue. I saw from above it was free, but upon checking, it is not free. Was that temporarily free? Thanks
Thanks, Ewen. The person inquiring wants copies of Part 1 and Part two of the communities and networks articles I did. And silly me, I never keep author copies ... nor even track what I write. This may be a lesson!!!
Just some updates about the KM for Development Journal - and some opportunities for you to come up with interesting topics for upcoming issues and articles...
Past issues:
- The current issue (December 2013) is about 'Facilitating multi-stakeholder processes (balancing internal dynamics and institutional politics)'
- The previous issue (September 2013) was about 'Breaking the boundaries to knowledge integration: society meets science within knowledge management for development'
Upcoming issues:
- The May 2014 issue will be in Spanish and is in the final stages now. Read more about it here.
- The September 2014 issue will be about 'Africa' and lots of articles are on their way already. Read more about this issue here.
- The December 2014 issue will be non-thematic, so any article is welcome for this.
- The May 2015 issue will be about 'facilitation' and the editors are currently unpacking how to give this more focus and how to structure this issue. More news about this in the future. The call for papers is expected some time after the summer.
- The other two issues of 2015 are not planned yet so...
How to get involved and propose topics and articles?
For the December 2014, September 2015 and December 2015 issues, any article is welcome. But crucially also, if you have any suggestion re: a possible thematic focus for the September (or December) 2015 issue, you're welcome to share it here and see if anyone would be interested. One of those 2 issues will remain non-thematic (to accommodate other articles that don't fit in a specific 'theme') but the other is up for grabs - so feel free to HAVE A GO :)
We are grateful for the collaboration during the process of all authors, guest editors, and peer reviewers for making it possible and for trusting their ideas, experiences and propositions to the Journal.
Justclickand enjoy this open access issue covering KM4Dev experiences in Latin America, with eight articles in Spanish and one in Portuguese.
Authors of issue 11.1 on facilitation - that the notification about abstracts being approved or not is likely to be sent out on friday 19 september instead of monday 15 september.
Thank you for your understanding,
Best,
Ewen Le Borgne, on behalf of the guest editorial team

To respond to Ewen (his post dated 20120315 below).
Today I can see
Volume 7, Issue 1, 2011
on http://www.tandfonline.com/toc/rkmd20/current
I can also see http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/titles/19474199.asp
What about you?
Ik keep finding the sites (why two different ones?) pretty confusing, never knowing if I see the latest issue or not. Never clear if I should login or not.
Actually on the http://www.tandfonline.com/toc/rkmd20/current I seem not to be able to login!?
On http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/titles/19474199.asp one doesn't seem to have to login.
Can someone explain this? And update our wiki pages with a roadmap on using the websites of the KM4Dev journal? Thanks!

Wondering how to get access to the Taylor & Francis issues/articles (2009-2012)?
Here's what's planned:
This is a very timely question! We currently have a student volunteer
from Macquarie University, Sydney, who is putting the 3 volumes
(2009-2012) online on the Open Journal System so they will be open
access like the rest of the journal. She has just started - this
weekend - and is working on Volume 5, issue 1. As she gets each issue
online, she will be informing everyone about this. It takes quite a
bit of time to do this - she has to create author accounts by proxy,
submit each individual paper as a proxy for the author, add all the
metadata in three languages, and then change roles to upload final
files and create the issue - but while she is getting round to volume
6, Nancy, I will send you a PDF of your paper, both parts 1 and 2.
In the meantime, if any of you receive some strange, automatically
generated mails from me - in which you are thanked for submitting a
paper that was published some years ago - it will be part of this
process going on behind the scenes so there is no need to worry. As
author, you will also receive a mail when the issue is online.
Cheers!
